Our clients are global citizens who have lived in all sorts of exotic locations throughout the world, regardless of their location, they would probably always call Scotland their home. We were approached to help them make their dream of creating a base near Kinloss, Morayshire. The site is located within a golf course and enjoys fantastic levels of light and beautiful views all around.
We started the process of designing the house by preparing a number of design options, three distinct house types were presented to the client and then discussed with the planning authority. The design which caught the clients eye was for a large, low timber ‘box’ which included a central courtyard and a roof garden.
The central courtyard provides the core of the house with all functions located around it. All of the living spaces look onto both the courtyard and the grounds surrounding the house. The idea behind this feature was to allow the house to be private from the outside yet still enjoy an external space which is large enough to function as a planted garden.
Above the main house, a single pavilion provides a private master bedroom suite. Access to the roof garden is available from the master bedroom providing a very private outdoor space for relaxing, sunbathing (it is possible in Scotland!) and for enjoying views towards the beautiful coastline to the north.
